(Upper Extremity Program)

Whether caused by trauma or repetitive strain, work-related injuries to the hand can be seriously debilitating. Advances in surgical intervention are making it possible to restore greater levels of function to injured hands. To realize the full benefits of surgery, the services of skilled therapists are required. Our experienced hand therapists work closely with plastic surgeons and other specialists to achieve maximum levels of function.

The Upper Extremity Program sees clients from a few days up to several weeks after injury. Most clients are post-surgical, and the majority of those with acute injuries are off work at the time. To promote recovery and return to work, Kinetik therapists provide several levels of service.

- Hand therapy may include wound and scar management, pain management, range of motion exercises, strengthening, dexterity training and desensitization.

- Therapists work with clients to help them adjust psychologically to changes in the function or appearance of their injured hand.

- Assessments are provided for client readiness to return to work or requirements for modification of work. This may include functional capacity evaluation, work conditioning, job site evaluation, job modification consulting and pre-employment screening.

Function is measured by the range of motion, strength, endurance, dexterity, sensation and condition of scar tissue on the injured hand. Kinetik works to achieve the highest level of function possible - something we measure by our client's level of satisfaction and their ability to return to work and carry out daily activities.
