What is the Vocational Assessment Program?
The Vocational Assessment Program provides a standardized objective assessment to determine a vocational direction.
Kinetik’s Vocational Assessments provide an in-depth evaluation of interests, aptitudes, and other key areas pertinent to vocational direction and the capacity to successfully return an individual to employment. To assist Case Mangers, recommendations are outlined in relation to specific steps and associated costs.
Who should be referred?
Any client requiring vocational direction can benefit from Vocational Assessment. We have expertise to work with complex situations.
• Clients with physical and cognitive deficits impacting employability. Kinetik Occupational, Physical and Exercise therapists have the professional background to understand pathology and the rehabilitation expertise to understand the functional impact of physical and cognitive limitations.
• Clients with low reading levels or English is a second language.
• Clients with employability factors and barriers to return to work can also be thoroughly assessed.
• Experience in assessment of complex files allows Kinetik professionals to balance the expectations of insurers with the needs and concerns of clients.
What are the steps to make a referral?
Referrals are accepted from various sources:
• Health care professionals such as a therapist or physician.
• Third parties such as Insurers.
• Individuals.
The program will contact the client to confirm the referral and arrange an appointment time.
A letter will be sent confirming the appointment and indicating information and items to bring to the assessment.
Payment for services needs to be provided at time of the assessment if the cost is not covered by a third party.
What does a Vocational Assessment include?
There are 3 standard types of Vocational Assessment. We can also customize an assessment to meet your needs.
Basic Vocational Assessment
• In-depth assessment of interests, academic functioning and education capacity.
• Transferable skills, aptitudes, and other key areas pertinent to vocational direction and the capacity to successfully return an individual to employment.
• The assessment uses a combination of computerized assessment, written components, and simulated work tasks based on the VALPAR system.
• Recommendations are relevant to the individual’s education level, employment availability within the prescribed geographic area, and income history.
• Outcome is suitable job matches including data on availability.
Comprehensive Vocational Assessment
• Following the Basic Assessment, the Comprehensive Assessment includes a cost benefit analysis of suitable job matches.
• Availability of and related costs associated with required training are detailed.
• Results are reviewed with the insurer and/or client and specific steps to implement the top choices are outlined.
• Outcome is a comparative analysis of suitable job matches, related costs, time lines and job market information.
Transferable Skills Analysis
• Determine occupational options from previously demonstrated work history which identifies jobs with similar abilities to those previously demonstrated by the client.
• Assumes abilities previously demonstrated at job can be used to create a match to new occupation. (Work History must remain relevant i.e. no significant change in cognitive abilities).
What is the outcome of the assessment?
A report will be sent to you within two weeks of the assessment outlining job matches, with specific steps and associated costs for implementation.
